Lee’s Newbie Guide for Tabula Rasa
I was inspired by some emails I’ve received to write down my thoughts on the best configuration to get the most out of TR. This is my personal config, and obviously these are preference based… But if you are having some functionality/usability issues, I encourage you to try some of these tips and see if they help.

Easy Access Mouse Mode without the Radial Menu
I never liked having to bring up the radial menu to pop into Mouse Mode. The default for toggling in and out of Mouse Mode is ` (located in the top-left most position of the keyboard). I have bound my unused 3rd Mouse Button to this functionality. Now I can easily pop in and out of mouse mode.
1. Open your Options menu and go to Key Bindings
2. Scroll down under User Interface to Toggle Mouse Look
3. Click on the far right empty button next to this to setup an additional binding
4. Click your Mouse’s thumb button or Mouse Button ¾
5. Click Ok
MMO Key Bindings FTW
This will allow you to pop off abilities without having to scroll through them by using the 1-5 keys. Note that your ability and weapon trays will reverse. Also note that you will have to use 6-0 to change weapons or scroll through them using your Q and E keys.
1. Open your options menu and go into Key Bindings
2. Set Control Scheme to MMO Style
3. Click Ok
Easy Access Loadouts
Now that you are using MMO Style keys, you can setup 5 trays with different ability loadouts. I recommend building loadouts that fit different situations. Examples include: ‘out of combat buffing’; ‘solo play’; ‘group play’. Follow these steps to easily scroll through loadouts using Shift + Mouse Wheel.
1. Open your Options menu and go to Key Bindings
2. Scroll down under Actions to Next Ability Loadout
3. Click on the empty button to assign it a new binding
4. Hold Shift and the Mouse Wheel Up
5. Now Click on the empty button next to Previous Ability Loadout
6. Hold Shift and Mouse Wheel Down
7. click Ok
Removing General Chat (optional)
I have found that General Chat can make important conversation hard to read. If you want to remove general chat so you can focus on other chat channels/conversations here is how…
1. Move your mouse over your chat window
2. Right click on the General tab
3. Under Tab Filters, click on Channels
4. Click the green button next to General so that it is off
Spotting Players in a Sea of NPCs
Our game is full of active NPCs. It is difficult to spot the players amongst them. This is how you get player names to appear above players. I also explain the exposure of guild tags as well.
1. Go back into Options but this time go to Game
2. Scroll down under Overhead Display and find Enable Overhead Player Name Display
3. Turn this on
4. Directly below this is a pull down
5. Set this to Clan
6. Click Ok
General Tips
1. The new player channel is accessed by prefacing any chat with “/2”. The people on that channel have proven to be fast and knowledgeable responders.
2. To speak to everyone on the instance of the map you are on, preface chat with “/4”. This works well when needing to rally people to control points.
3. Not that these are the _best_ skills for any/all players but… If you don’t know where to spend your skill points, motor assist armor and firearms are an easy win. Firearms are versatile and running faster minimizes frustrating things like getting lost.
4. When you first enter a new area consider these things:
a. Find the guy who gives you the ToO quest. Use /2 or /4 for help. There is no sense in not getting ToO credit for stuff you are killing.
b. Make Waypoint acquisition a priority. Even if the waypoint is in the wrong direction you can just use it to teleport back to town. Try to get all the waypoints as quickly as possible.
c. AFS owned Control Points should also be a priority to visit as they won’t always be AFS owned.
5. www.LogosAtlas.com is a must have resource when collecting Logos.
