Critters sticks her hand into the bucket of Feedback Form Submissions and pulls out a few of this week’s hot topics. Want to know what they are? Read on…

General Questions

My friend wants to give Tabula Rasa a try.  Are there any trials available?
There is a trial available in our new Tabula Rasa Referral program.  The referral program lets you send a 3 day trial to an unlimited about of friends.  If your friend enjoys the game and purchases the retail serial code and one month’s subscription, then YOUR account will get a free month.  For more information, please check out the Referral Program Instructions.

I’ve submitted a ticket to PlayNC Support and they haven’t replied.  What is taking them so long?
PlayNC Support is experiencing a delay in their response times due to high ticket volume.  We hope to have this resolved, and in the mean time, suggest the following to players:

  • Once you submit a ticket, do not wait for the GM to appear in game.  While we would like to assist you immediately, our high call times are making this harder to do.  Simply continue on with your progression in the game and if we don’t get to you before you log out, update yout ticket during your next log in so we assist you.
  • Also, make sure to check your email associated with your PlayNC account for any workarounds or follow up correspondence regarding your issue.

Server/Technical Questions

Can someone please explain the recent changes with the Network Ping indicator? What do these numbers mean exactly?
Previously, the network ping indicator displayed the time for a message to travel over the Internet to the server and back, plus the time for the server to process the message, plus the time for the client to process the response. In the most recent patch however, the number now shown is simply the time for the message to travel over the Internet to the server and back.  Our previous method provided information in a way that was confusing and not useful. The new method should give players a much better tool to evaluate their network’s performance when they play Tabula Rasa.

Should high network ping numbers worry me?
Not really.  Ping times do not always directly relate to the performance you will see in game. Someone may have excellent responsiveness with higher ping times or have lag with lower ping times.  Now, if you are experiencing lag, our comrades over in PlayNC Technical Support have a Knowledge Base article to assist you step-by-step in working to resolve your issue.  You can find this article here.

Will Tabula Rasa be available for Macintosh?
“Currently, there are no plans to implement Tabula Rasa compatibility with Macintosh systems. For now, Tabula Rasa is PC only.  However, there are new Macintosh systems that may be able to run Tabula Rasa if they use a Windows Operating System. At this time, this setup is not officially supported.”

Game Design Questions

Regarding Ethical Parables, do the decisions I make now affect me later in game?
There is a branch at the end of the game. The choice you make determines which part of the story you are exposed to for a long series of missions. What those missions are, and what the branch is, I will leave to the player to find out….

Will there be a way to change my last name?
Your last name is part of your reputation in the game. Without deleting all of your characters, there will be no way to change it.

Will black and grey paint colors be added?
We know players have been itching for black, grey, and white paint dyes. We’re working on it and have some unique ideas on how you can obtain them coming up in a future build.

When will we see the official TR Forums?

Posted by Corne on 17th November, 2007 at 5:16

Would like to see some info revealed about the future of PVP in TR.

Well this weeks patch helped, but I’ve still hit the point where the game is unplayable at peak times.

1815 Saturday 17th November - giving up playing for the evening and going to play Eve.

This is solely down to lag in all zones. I know you are trying, but this issue will be a game-killer. The lag is directly proportional to server load.

Please could you consider silver and gold paint too?  Also I wwondered if weapons could be painted.

I have had a serious runtime bug in the fighting area outside the Foxtrot base.  I have been running and the programme has shut down at least 3 times - twice today.

Apart from that I really love this game and think its doing well.

Control Points (on the Euro server anyway) for most of the playing day are in the hands of the ASF because a small number of players can easily defend a base. This means you have to get up very early (I got up at 6 AM) to have any chance of arriving when Bane have taken over and get the assualt tokens.

Is there anyway of changing the system so that the Bane can take over more easily, maybe a system where each attacking wave is more intense until the Bane actually win and then this is reset once they ASF take over again?

As it stands now you see messages in chat of people requesting to allow a CP to be taken over which makes no sense as far as the story line goes but perfect sense when they are faced with the frustration that during their regular play time the CP’s (in all the instances) are never under Bane control.

what would be really cool if we could customise the armor a bit more, maybe a secondary colour. or adding a clan symbol to the armor. or even when completed titles have medals displayable on armor..

Oh and another thing. The issue with the General chat in different languages is still an issue. Some people are getting rude / racist / obscene etc about the whole thing.

Can you either rename the general chat to English, orr add an english only channel for those people that seem incapble of handling the fact that there is more then one language spoken in this world.

Failing that make it clear what languages are allowed in general because even with the German and French channels added people are still talking those languages in general and then getting some awfull comments from some other people about it.

Personally I think any language should be allowed but have not yet seen any clarification on what your view is on this.

<From Avatea> All servers being global servers, all languages are indeed welcome and people being blatantly racist or rude get sanctionned by our GMs as soon as we can check our logs to prove their misbehaviour.

man you have to fix the lag issue at high server load.  i played at 0 7 30 on sunday and mires was ok to play , by 11am there was nearly a 3 second delay commiting any operations .  it has to improve and it did just after the last patch but it got steadily worse over the weekend .  hope you can sort it soon .

last week there was a comment about 2nd European server. The answer clearly indicated that once some technical issues are solved, the 2nd server will receive green light. Now, I am going to buy TR but only when there are more euroservers (I cannot forget WoW´s lagland). So - any news on 2nd euroserver future? Please, pretty please?

I really enjoy playing this game, your last patch solved a lot of Quirks in the game, keep up the good work. Remember: Dev’s like a good whipping.
but (there always is a but..) could you reveal a bit more about performance issues in the maps i am now going in at after level 30, like Mires and Plateau?
The Referral program is a nice touch, giving my friends a chance to play as well, as to just looking over my shoulder at how beautifull Eloh Vale is. smile
Are there any gameplay balance issues you might be considering?

I hear vehicles are coming? I ‘NEED’ to know more!

Posted by Dave on 25th November, 2007 at 20:01

so, what’s up with new euroserver? have you resolved all the technical problems? and how’s the load on the old euroserver? are still the issues caused by faulty hard/software or simply there are more europeans playing TR than you have been prepared for?

Posted by hello on 26th November, 2007 at 15:01

Secondary colours would be a nice touch.
How about making it possible to mix dyes with the craft station?

Also the language things isnt so great it has little to do with racism.
It has to do with the fact that we old buggers dont like it that the old values are being thrown out. ORPG etiqeutte dictates that the language used in general interactions is english. It could have been Swahili for all i care.
Point is, thats the way it growed. Respect it. Why? Because it makes interaction easier.

Also its not fair to say this, but i do feel that once again Europe is being treated like the step daughter in all of this. I find it insulting that Europe has to share 1 server while North America has 3 servers that never reach the loadage as the Euro server. Granted North America is bigger but i think that the largest player base for TR comes from Europe and other continents aside America/North America. Just a hunch ofcourse, dont pin me on this.
